![]() Hence, mobile forensic cases are gaining new potentials as we research the strategies and capabilites on our vast collection of smartphones (~500) we have stored for research work. When we want to take this case further on to the next level we will use Cellebrite’s Link Analyzer and Cloud Analyzer. This shows that with the growing complexity of mobile forensics cases you need to increase your tool kit. Before we could get to the information structure we had to reengineer the data visible from the chip using Rusoluts powerful VNR Toolkit. ![]() Physical Analyzer eventually was the tool that allowed us gain access to the information structure of the phone. With R-Studio we got clean access to folders but now logical structure as to where SMS and other information are stored. This image was then tested on R-Studio and Physical Analyzer. We then read the data from chip using VNR Technology and then turning the information in the eMMC to a DD compatible image. We dismantled the smartphone and removed the chip (EMMC 32G BGA153) from PCB. Hence after all different attempts failed we decided to take it the VNR way. All prices, product versions and URLs’ are correct at the time of printing.A Nexus 5 (model code D821) smartphone was so severely damaged that we could not access data the usual way using UFED4PC.
